An ECE major project is judged on design thinking, correctness and clarity of explanation. Here are directions that fit common syllabi, followed by advice on making them strong.
Embedded and IoT
- Smart energy meter with remote monitoring.
- Vehicle accident alert using sensors and wireless messaging.
- Smart irrigation controller with soil data logging.
- Wearable health monitor for pulse and temperature.
Communication and wireless
- Wireless sensor network with multiple nodes.
- LoRa-based long-range monitoring prototype.
- Software simulation of OFDM and error performance.
- RF-controlled robot with range testing.
Signal and image processing
- ECG signal denoising and feature detection.
- Speech enhancement using adaptive filters.
- Image-based object counting for industrial use.
VLSI and electronics
- Low-power adder or ALU design in HDL with simulation.
- Power-supply design with efficiency measurement.
Choosing well
Pick a topic with measurable outcomes, such as range, accuracy, power use or response time. Then design experiments to measure them. Results with numbers are far stronger than demonstrations alone.
Documentation
Keep a block diagram, circuit schematic, bill of materials, code, test data and a list of problems met. Our guide to project reports explains structure.
Viva preparation
Expect questions on component choices, formulas, alternatives and limitations. Practise explaining the system in two minutes, then in ten.
